He won the Nobel Prize with his novel The Old Man and the Sea in 1953. He participated in World War I as an ambulance driver volunteer for the American Red Cross in Italy. In World War II he created the Crook Factory for a spy network and got information about Nazi sympathizers. About his personal life, he married four times, having three sons, but he had a lot of affairs. He loved outdoor life: fishing, hunting, bullfighting, etc. His final years were full of illnesses both physical and emotional. Finally, he killed himself in July of 1961 | |
