Description
Summary:This thesis is about Theodore Dreiser, 1871 - 1945, a novelist and excellent American exponent of the Naturalist school. This investigation shows how the times in which Dreiser lived are reflected in his novels. His first novel, Sister Carrie, (1900) is the story of a working girl in her life as a mistress of a man who descends the social scale as she rises to success as an actress. The book reveals the lifestyle of people living during the Industrial Revolution in the United States. An American Tragedy (1925) is the story of a youth of unstable character trapped by circumstances that lead his execution for murder. This novel predicts the economic crisis of the 1930´s as a result of the failure of many people to achieve the American Dream of material success
