TIM-3 blockade as a therapeutic approach for diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

Brain tumors are the most common solid neoplasms and the leading cause of death from cancer in children1 . Among childhood cancers, brain tumors are the second in general incidence only behind hematological tumors and in the following order: leukemia (30%), brain and other nervous system cancers...

description Brain tumors are the most common solid neoplasms and the leading cause of death from cancer in children1 . Among childhood cancers, brain tumors are the second in general incidence only behind hematological tumors and in the following order: leukemia (30%), brain and other nervous system cancers (CNS) (22.3%), neuroblastoma (7.3%), Wilms tumor (5.6%), non-Hodgkin lymphoma (4.5%), rhabdomyosarcoma (3.1%), retinoblastoma (2.8%), osteosarcoma (2.4%), and Ewing sarcoma (1.4%)2 . However, in U.S. persons aged 0-14 years, brain and other CNS tumors were the most common cancer site with a mean annual age-adjusted incidence rate of 5.65 per 100,000 population3 (Figure 1). Overall, pediatric brain tumors remain a disease with a very poor prognosis and few effective treatments.
