description Learning English has always been a difficult task for foreign learners, especially when referring to the improvement of the listening and speaking skills. This study is the research work carried out in MaríaAuxiliadora High School with the students of Science Classes. This research analyzed the use of films in the development of listening and speaking skills, the use of activities related to them and the gains in proficiency. It investigated as well students’ motivations and achievements during this process. Even though some studies in the field have been achieved, this research shows the experiences of the students of this school in Cuenca, Ecuador. Fifty-eight students were involved in the project during nine months. Participants gave a Pretest Score and answered Surveys on the use of the target language (TLS), and the incidence of its use (FS). Additionally to those surveys, there were Trimester Tests and a final questionnaire on the results of the study (LS). The data achieved from the surveys provided more information to be compared with the pretest and the trimester test III results to verify the proficiency gains attained by the students. The outcomes propose that the use of activities based on films help acquire listening and speaking skills. Furthermore, this study supplies information on the activities students favor to improve the aural and oral skills.
