Gómez Galán, José López Meneses, Eloy Educación Turística Turismo Comunitario Sostenibilidad Desarrollo Cultural El objetivo de la investigación, un estudio de caso, fue analizar el potencial cultural, patrimonial y natural del Municipio de Cataño, Puerto Rico, con el fin de facilitar y promover actividades de turismo comunitario, en especial en el ámbito socioeducativo. El estudio se desarrolló mediante una metodología de enfoque mixto (cuantitativa y cualitativa, dos paradigmas que se complementan en el conocimiento, explicación y comprensión de la realidad social y educativa) para lograr los objetivos perseguidos. En una primera fase se llevó a cabo un exhaustivo y diverso análisis de la realidad actual del municipio, muy condicionada aún por el desastre que provocó el paso del huracán María, y en todas sus dimensiones (socioeducativa, cultural, económica). Para ello se realizaron numerosas visitas de campo con el fin de identificar estructuras que pudieran servir de atracción y apoyo para el desarrollo de la actividad de turismo comunitario, lo que permitió identificar su potencial en este ámbito. Paralelamente se efectuó una compleja revisión de la literatura científica que permitió, entre otros hallazgos, establecer los fundamentos en común que existen entre el turismo comunitario y la educación turística, temática esencial en nuestro trabajo para la creación de estrategias de acción adecuadas. En una segunda fase, y como la percepción, opinión y sensaciones de la comunidad resultan determinantes en el desarrollo de esta modalidad de turismo, fueron encuestados, mediante técnicas sociométricas, un total de 497 residentes. Tras el proceso de revisión individual de cada uno de ellos se establecieron como válidos 440, que constituyeron la muestra representativa de estudio. Tras completar el análisis de ambas fases se obtuvo como resultado principal la evidencia de que el turismo comunitario resulta fundamental para el desarrollo educativo, cultural y económico de la zona, proceso en el cual los habitantes se muestran completamente participativos.
